1. 複数の異なる素材を組み合わせることで、それぞれの素材単体では得られない優れた特性を持つように作られた材料。

二つ以上の異なる素材を組み合わせることで、それぞれの素材単体では得られない優れた特性を持つように作られた材料を指します。例えば、ガラス繊維強化プラスチックなどがこれに該当します。
