1. （結果的に～と）なる、判明する

何かが最終的にどうなるか、またはある状況が実際にはどうであるかを表現する際に使われます。予想外の結果を示すことが多いです。

It turned out that he was innocent. (彼が無実であることが判明した。)

• It: 文の主語となる形式的な単語で、具体的な意味は後に続くthat節で示されます。
• turned out: 「～と判明した」「～という結果になった」という意味の句動詞です。
• that he was innocent: 「彼が無実であったということ」という内容を示す節です。

The party turned out to be a great success. (パーティーは大成功に終わった。)

• The party: そのパーティー。
