1. 水分を失って乾ききる、または資源・アイデアなどが尽き果てること。

液体が蒸発して乾燥したり、植物が水分を失って枯れたりする物理的な状態から、資金、インスピレーション、資源といった抽象的なものが底を尽き、利用できなくなる精神的・経済的な状態まで幅広く使われます。
