1. 話や文章の最も重要な部分。要点、骨子、大意。

話や議論、報告書などの最も重要で中心となる考えや情報を指し、詳細を省いた大まかな内容を表します。全体像を把握する際に用いられます。

Could you just give me the gist of it? I don't have time for all the details. (要点だけ教えてくれない？全部の詳細を聞いている時間がないんだ。)
