1. 一連の物事や人の中で、次の番が来たときや、順番に何かを行うことを指します。

何かが連続して発生する際に、一つの事柄の後に別の事柄が続くという順序や継承の関係を表します。特に、前者が後者に影響を与える、または後者が前者の役割を引き継ぐような文脈で使われます。

Each student took a turn reading the poem, and then, in turn, discussed its meaning. (各生徒が順番に詩を読み、その後、今度はその意味について話し合った。)
