1. 活動の終わりに際して発表される、最後で最も素晴らしい業績、作品、または感動的な行為。引退や死の前の最後の輝きを指す。

白鳥が死ぬ前に最も美しい声で歌うという伝説に由来する表現です。人や組織が活動を終える前、引退する前、あるいは死を迎える前に発表する、最後で最も傑出した作品や業績、あるいは感動的な行動を指します。有終の美を飾るという意味合いで使われることが多いです。
