1. 自分の位置や方向を定める。または新しい環境や状況に慣れる。

新しい環境や状況において、自分自身がどこにいるのか、どの方向を向いているのかを確認したり、それに合わせて自分を調整したりするイメージです。主にイギリス英語で使われます。

It took him a moment to orientate himself in the dark. (彼は暗闇の中で自分の位置を把握するのに少し時間がかかった。)
