1. 誤った考え、誤謬、間違った信念

論理的に間違っている、あるいは根拠が不十分な推論や考え方を指します。特に、一見正しそうに見えるが、実際は間違いを含む議論に対して使われます。

It's a common fallacy that money brings happiness. (お金が幸せをもたらすというのはよくある間違いです。)

• It's: It is の短縮形で、「それは～である」という意味です。
• a common fallacy: 「よくある誤り」や「一般的な誤謬」を意味します。

2. 欺瞞的で誤解を招くような概念、信念、考え

表面上は正しいように見えても、実際には誤解を生じさせる、または欺く意図のある考えや信念を指します。

The idea that harder work always leads to more success is a fallacy. (より一生懸命働くことが必ずしもより大きな成功につながるという考えは誤りです。)

• The idea: 「その考え」を指します。
• that harder work always leads to more success: 「より一生懸命働くことが常にさらなる成功につながるということ」で、idea の内容を説明します。
• is a fallacy: 「誤りである」という意味です。

Many people believe the fallacy that organic food is always healthier. (多くの人が、オーガニック食品は常に健康的であるという誤った考えを信じています。)

• Many people: 「多くの人々」を指します。
• believe: 「～を信じる」という意味です。
