1. 故障する、動かなくなる

機械、エンジン、電化製品などが突然動かなくなったり、機能しなくなったりする様子を表します。予期せぬ故障や停止を指す口語的な表現です。

My old car conked out on the highway, so I had to call for a tow truck. (私の古い車は高速道路で故障して動かなくなり、レッカー車を呼ばなければならなかった。)

2. ぐっすり眠りこける、気絶するように眠る

非常に疲れているため、まるで意識を失ったかのように突然、深く眠りに落ちる様子を表します。通常、肉体的な疲労が原因で、すぐに眠り込んでしまう場合に用いられます。

After hiking all day, I just wanted to conk out on the nearest bed. (一日中ハイキングした後、私はただ最寄りのベッドでぐっすり眠りこけたかった。)
