1. 質問や問題に対して、答えが見つからず困惑している状態。または、解決策が見つからず手詰まりになる状態。

質問や問題が難しすぎて、何を言えばいいのか、どう解決すればいいのか全く分からず、思考が停止して立ち往生している様子を表します。通常は過去形（was/were stumped）や受動態（be stumped）で使われます。

I was completely stumped by the last question on the exam. (試験の最後の問題に完全に困惑しました。)
