1. 公職に就任する者が職務への忠誠や憲法遵守などを誓う公式な宣誓。

公職に就任する者が、その職務を誠実に遂行し、憲法や法律を遵守することを神や上位の存在、あるいは自身に対して厳粛に誓う儀式的な宣誓を指します。アメリカ大統領や裁判官など、重要な公職に就く際に行われるのが一般的です。
