1. 競走や競争の最終直線部分、または最終段階。

競走において、ゴール前の最終直線コースを指すことが由来です。転じて、プロジェクトやタスク、イベントなどが終盤に差し掛かり、ゴールに向かって最後の追い込みをかける段階を比喩的に表現します。
