1. 遺伝学において、対立遺伝子のうち、形質として現れる方の遺伝子。

遺伝子には対となるものがあり、そのうち表現型として現れる（優勢な）性質を持つ遺伝子を指します。劣性遺伝子と対比されます。

Brown eyes are often a dominant gene. (茶色の目はしばしば優性遺伝子です。)
