未成年者が犯罪を犯したり、問題行動を起こしたりした場合に、刑罰を与えるのではなく、教育や訓練を通じて社会復帰を促すことを目的とした施設を指します。以前は「感化院」という言葉も使われましたが、現代では「少年院」や「矯正施設」といった表現がより一般的です。
