1. 書籍やスピーチの冒頭にある序文、前書き。

書籍や正式なスピーチなどの冒頭に置かれる、目的や背景などを説明する文章や言葉を指します。

The author wrote a long preface to his book. (著者は彼の本に長い序文を書いた。)

• The author wrote a long: 著者は長い「～を書いた」という部分です。
• preface: 「序文」「前書き」を指します。
• to his book.: 「彼の本に」という、書いた対象を示します。
