1. すなわち、つまり

すでに述べたことに対して、より明確な説明を加えたり、別の言葉で言い換えたりする際に使われます。ラテン語由来の表現で、英語では 'that is' や 'in other words' と同じ意味で使われます。

The capital of Japan, id est, Tokyo, is a bustling metropolis. (日本の首都、すなわち東京は、賑やかな大都市です。)

2. 言い換えれば

先に述べた内容を、別の言葉でより分かりやすく、あるいは別の角度から表現し直す際に用いられます。'in other words' に近いニュアンスです。

She is a polymath, id est, she knows a lot about many subjects. (彼女は博識家です、言い換えれば、多くの分野についてたくさん知っています。)
