1. その人が行った行為に対して、当然受けるべき報い。特に、悪い行いに対する正当な罰や結果を指すことが多い慣用句。

人が過去に行った行為、特に悪い行いに対して、その行為にふさわしい結果や罰が与えられる状況を表す慣用句です。文脈によっては良い結果を指すこともありますが、多くは悪行に対する正当な罰という意味合いで使われます。「desserts」は「デザート（甘い菓子）」ではなく、「deserts（報い、功罪）」という意味で発音されます。
