1. 一つもない、誰もいない、全くない

何かがあるべき場所や期待される場所に、一つも、あるいは誰も存在しないことを強く否定し、その不在を強調する際に使われます。

There was not one person in the room. (部屋には一人もいませんでした。)

• There was: 「～があった」という存在を表します。
• not one person: 「一人もいない」ことを強調します。
• in the room: 「部屋の中に」という場所を示します。

Not one of her friends called her on her birthday. (彼女の友達の誰もが誕生日に電話をかけてきませんでした。)

• Not one of her friends: 「彼女の友達のうち一人も」という意味で、全くいないことを強調します。
• called her: 「彼女に電話した」という行為を表します。
• on her birthday: 「彼女の誕生日に」という時を示します。

He had not one regret about his decision. (彼は自分の決断について、一つも後悔していませんでした。)

• He had: 「彼は持っていた」という状態を表します。
• not one regret: 「一つも後悔がない」ことを強調します。
• about his decision: 「彼の決断について」という対象を示します。
