1. 物事や人物の様子や特徴を言葉で伝えること。

何かや誰かの見た目、性質、特徴などを言葉で詳しく説明する状態や、その説明内容そのものを指します。小説での情景描写や、製品やサービスの仕様説明など、具体的な情報を伝える際によく使われます。

She gave a vivid description of the scene. (彼女はその場面を生き生きと描写した。)

2. 特定の種類の人物や物。

「a person/thing of description」や「of every description」といったフレーズで使われる場合、その人物や物がどのような種類、性質、タイプであるかを示すニュアンスになります。特に「of every description」は「あらゆる種類の」という意味で使われます。
