1. 職務に就いている状態またはその期間。

政府や組織などの公的な役職や職務に就いている状態、あるいはその職に就いている期間を指します。選挙で選ばれた人や任命された人がその地位にあることを表す際によく使われます。

During his long incumbency, he introduced many reforms. (彼の長い在任期間中に、彼は多くの改革を導入した。)
