1. 経済的に発展した国々の総称。主に北半球に位置する国々を指すことが多いが、例外もある。

世界経済において、高い経済力と生活水準を持つ国々をまとめて指す際に用いられる言葉です。地理的には北半球に多いですが、オーストラリアやニュージーランドのような南半球の国も含まれることがあります。開発途上国を指す「グローバルサウス」と対比されることが多いです。
