1. 聖歌隊席、内陣

教会堂内で、祭壇と聖歌隊席が置かれる部分を指します。通常、会衆席とは仕切りで区切られており、聖職者や聖歌隊が儀式を行うために使われます。

The priest stood at the chancel, ready to begin the sermon. (司祭は説教を始める準備をして、内陣に立っていた。)
