1. 建築物、特に教会の東端などに見られる、半円形または多角形に突き出た部分。しばしば丸天井になっている。

教会建築などで、主身廊の終端に位置し、礼拝空間の一部として半円形や多角形に突き出た部分を指します。通常は半ドーム状の丸天井（ヴォールト）で覆われています。
