anachronism

[əˈnækrəˌnɪzəm] アナクロニズム

1. 本来あるべき時代から外れている物事。特に、古いものが新しい時代に現れることや、その状態。

ある特定の時代に属さない物事や、その時代には存在しないはずのものが存在している状態を指します。時間の流れに逆行したり、時代にそぐわない要素がある場合によく使われます。

The clock in the painting was an anachronism; mechanical clocks hadn't been invented yet. (その絵の中の時計は時代錯誤だった。機械式時計はまだ発明されていなかったのだから。)
