1. 公的な場で、真実を語ることや特定の義務を果たすことを厳粛に誓う。

法廷での証言や公職への就任など、公式かつ厳粛な場面で、真実を語ることや特定の義務を果たすことを厳かに誓う行為を表します。しばしば宗教的な要素を伴うこともありますが、現代では法的な拘束力を伴う誓約を指すことが多いです。
