1. 苦い薬、受け入れがたい現実、不快な真実

不快であるにもかかわらず、受け入れざるを得ない困難な状況や現実、あるいは不都合な真実を指す表現です。文字通り「苦い薬」を飲むように、我慢して受け入れる必要がある事柄を意味します。

Losing the game was a bitter pill for the team to swallow. (試合に負けたことは、チームにとって受け入れがたい現実だった。)
