1. 熱の出入りがない状態での系の変化。断熱変化。

熱力学において、外部との間で熱や物質のやり取りがない状態で行われる過程を指します。つまり、系が外界から熱を受け取ったり、外界へ熱を放出したりせずに、状態が変化することを意味します。例えば、ピストンが急速に動くシリンダー内のガスの膨張や圧縮は、熱交換の時間が十分にないため、断熱過程として扱われることがあります。
