1. 遅れる、取り残される

集合や集団から遅れていたり、あまり進んでいない状態を表します。物理的な遅れだけでなく、進行が遅いこと全般に使われます。

The train was delayed, and we were straggling behind. (列車は遅れ、私たちは取り残されていた。)
