1. インターネット上で、ハイパーテキストによって相互にリンクされた情報システム全体のこと。

インターネット上で、ウェブブラウザを使って閲覧できる、ハイパーテキストリンクによって相互に結びつけられた膨大な情報空間全体を指す言葉です。ティム・バーナーズ＝リーによって考案されました。単に「ウェブ（Web）」と呼ばれることが多いです。

World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) は、World Wide Webで使用される技術の標準化を推進する国際的な非営利団体です。しばしば「WWW」と略されることがあります。
