1. 議案などを拒否する権利。

議会や組織などで、特定の決定に対して反対し、それを阻止する権限を指します。特に国連安全保障理事会などで使われます。

China exercised its veto in the Security Council. (中国は安全保障理事会で拒否権を行使した。)

• China: 「中国」という国を指します。
• exercised: 「〜を行使した」という過去の行為を表します。
• its veto: 「その拒否権」を指します。
• in: 「〜の中で」という場所や範囲を示します。
• the Security Council: 特定の「安全保障理事会」を指します。

The proposal faces a possible veto from a member state. (その提案は加盟国からの拒否権の可能性に直面している。)

• faces: 「〜に直面している」という状況を表します。

権限をもって、議案や提案を認めない、または阻止する行為を表します。
