1. 血液中に毒素が存在する状態を指す医学用語。特に、妊娠後期に発生する子癇前症を指す古い用語。

血液中に細菌やその代謝産物、または内因性の有害物質などの毒素が入り込み、全身に影響を及ぼす状態を指します。過去には、特に妊娠中毒症（現在の「子癇前症」や「子癇」）を指す用語として広く用いられていました。現代ではより具体的な病名が使われることが多いです。
