1. 統計的仮説検定において、研究者がデータを通じて真実であると信じ、証明しようとする仮説。

統計学的な仮説検定において、帰無仮説（通常は「効果がない」「差がない」といった現状維持の仮説）と対立する形で立てられる仮説です。研究者がデータを通じて支持したいと考えている、特定の効果や関係性についての具体的な予測や主張を表します。帰無仮説が棄却された場合に、この対立仮説が採択されることになります。

The researcher formulated an alternative hypothesis stating that the new drug would significantly reduce blood pressure. (研究者は、新薬が血圧を大幅に低下させるという対立仮説を立てた。)
