1. 出来事、事件

特に不愉快であったり、普通でない出来事や事件を指す場合に使われます。単なる日常的な出来事ではなく、注意を引くような事柄を意味します。

There was an incident at the park yesterday. (昨日、公園で事件がありました。)

• There was: 「〜があった」という意味です。
• an incident: 「事件」や「出来事」を指します。
• at the park: 「公園で」という場所を表します。
• yesterday.: 「昨日」という時間を表します。

It was a minor incident and no one was hurt. (それは些細な出来事で、誰も怪我をしませんでした。)

2. 付随する事柄、付随する出来事

主要な出来事や問題に付随して発生する、それ自体はそれほど重要でないかもしれないが関連のある出来事を指す場合に使われます。

• He mentioned: 「彼は述べた」という意味です。
