1. 積み重ねられた山、堆積物

土や物などが積み上げられてできた山や塊を指します。

There was a heap of sand in the yard. (庭に砂の山がありました。)

• a heap of sand: 砂の山
• in the yard: 庭に

a heap of clothes on the floor (床の上の服の山)

• a heap of clothes: 服の山
• on the floor: 床の上に

He piled the leaves into a heap. (彼は葉っぱを一つの山に積み上げた。)

2. 大量、多数

特定のものがたくさんあることを指し、「a heap of...」の形で使われることが多いです。

She has a whole heap of problems. (彼女には山ほどの問題がある。)

3. （俗語で）古い、壊れたもの（車など）

特に古い、壊れた、手入れされていない車などを軽蔑的に指す俗語です。

I need to get rid of this old heap. (この古いポンコツを処分する必要がある。)
