1. 独立した主権国家から成る、歴史的にイギリス帝国と関連のある国家連合。

イギリス連邦は、かつてのイギリス帝国を構成していた国々が、現在では平等な地位を持つ独立した主権国家として、相互の協力と友好を促進するために結成した国際組織です。イギリス国王を共通の元首とする国（コモンウェルス王国）もあれば、そうでない共和国もあります。
