1. 側面が急峻で頂上が平らな孤立した丘や山。特に乾燥地帯に見られる地形。

周囲から独立してそびえ立ち、側面は非常に急で、頂上部が平らな特徴的な地形を指します。主にアメリカ西部などの乾燥地域で、周囲の柔らかい岩が浸食されて残った硬い岩の塊として形成されます。
