1. 太陽を中心に惑星が回るという、天動説とは反対の説。

「Heliocentric」はギリシャ語の「helios（太陽）」と「kentron（中心）」に由来し、惑星の中心に太陽があることを意味します。「model」は「模型」や「様式」を意味しますが、ここでは宇宙の構造や仕組みを表す「説」や「モデル」といった意味合いで使われています。
